The Nottawasaga Valley Watershed Management Plan was developed in 1996, and intended to provide direction for resource management in the Nottawasaga Valley Watershed. The Watershed Plan attempts to coordinate existing provincial legislation and policy into a useful background document which: supports and addresses a wide variety of land use issues; identifies key responsibilities of stakeholders; and makes recommendations for the implementation of resource management actions.
In 2006, a strategic review of the plan was conducted to address issues that had arisen since the plan was completed. This review examined the Watershed Plan's strategic directions, issues and recommendations, and assessed the effectiveness of its implementation. This review highlights the importance of integrating the long-term Watershed Plan with the annual Business Plan processes. The NVCA has developed an annual business planning process that ensures the implementation of the Watershed Plan's strategic directions as well as providing the capability to implement new local and provincial initiatives.
